I’ve mentioned several times that I’m a Joomla specialist. You are undoubtedly waiting for me to explain what the heck that is and why it’s important to you. So let me bore you with an explanation.
You have literally hundreds of options for designing and launching your website. You could go with a “free” service (don’t let that fool you because they’ll bill you for monthly service after that), do-it-yourself design websites for a small monthly fee, having your cousin do it, paying a big designer $10K to do it, or having me do it for a lot less than $10K. I will assess your needs and advise you accordingly. If you need just a few pages, I’ll do what’s called an HTML site for you. Not a lot of code, fairly immune to hacking, and gets the job done.
However, if you want fancier features like lots of pages, feeds, responsive design, document management, photo galleries, the ability to edit the pages yourself, and fast design changes, a content management system like Joomla is more appropriate.
Joomla is Open Source, which means that it is free and developers from around the world help develop extensions for it, along with testing it for security vulnerabilities all day long. The colors, page layouts, graphics, and typography are controlled by a template, which can be changed in just a few minutes. There are thousands of templates available to choose from, and I help you narrow down the choices quickly so that you can get on with your day. Once we have decided on a template, I customize it to match your company’s corporate identity and your preferences.
The best part is that adding pages, changing the menus, adding sidebar items, changing the colors and fonts, and adding features usually take just a few minutes.
Once the site is ready to go I can set up user accounts for you and your employees to use to make changes to the website (but only if you want to). No special software is required, just a browser and an internet connection, along with the ability to remember your password. I will even provide training as part of my initial development fees.
So, what is Joomla? A software package to run your website efficiently. Now you know.
